OBAMA FINDS MORE NEW DONORS

From Marc Ambinder:

When we got out first look at the third quarter estimates two weeks ago, it seemed that Sen. Hillary Clinton had attracted more new donors to her campaign than he did -- approximately 7,000 more.

But the final numbers give the edge to Obama in this category: he found 108,000 new donors and Clinton attracted 100,000.

That's 365,000 donors in all. 92.5% of all 550,000 donations Obama recieved have been for less than $250.00

That's campaign finance reform right there, isn't it?

I wanted to put some analysis with this but I don't know what more to say.  That is a lot of donors.  That is an amazing number of small donations.  That is amazing.

Boo Hu!

The real story is still of Hillary gaining more donors after a quarter where she didn't.

Obama counts people buying bumper stickers as "individual" donors. I am sure that number is skewed in many ways.

Re: OBAMA FINDS MORE NEW DONORS (none / 0)

Only a supporter will buy a bumper sticker. Your comment is nonsense. Shoppers of the Obama store know that their purchase goes towards a contribution. I've just purchased winter wear from the Obama store and contributed to the campaign at the same time. A proud supporter and contributor who sports Obama gear to show her support that's me.

Re: Ok, but no other campaign (none / 0)

HRC will be doing so for Q4 -- hillarystore will get counted as contribs -- if you're maxed out, you order thru hillarygear.

Ha, are you serious? (none / 0)

Well, hey, she's going to really rake in those donations now.

Re: Ha, are you serious? (none / 0)

You have come to the one stop shop for Hillary merchandise. All of our products are top quality and union made in the USA.

Any purchase is considered a federal contribution to Hillary Clinton for President. If you have already contributed the maximum amount under federal law or are otherwise ineligible to contribute under the federal rules, you may still purchase Hillary merchandise by visiting the bulk purchase store, HillaryGear.com.
HillaryGear.com is not affiliated with the Committee.

New policy as of this quarter.

Copy cat your new "Eleanor" is. She double swipes and can't think of creative ways to raise money.

That was a computer glitch.  It's ridiculous to think she would purposely piss off her donors.

Re: Ha, are you serious? (none / 0)

Change of tone I detect. "Oh, well, ok then".  Heh!

Hillary is asking for maxed out donors to purchase from her store and contribute to her General coffers, which she'll return the donations if she loses the Primary and then will foot the bill for her gear herself. Free wear from Hillary if she loses makes lots of sense since most people will use it for dusting.

What are you talking about? (none / 0)

This isn't for maxed out donors.

Re: Ha, are you serious? (none / 0)

She continues to widen her lead over rival Barack Obama, now 50%-21%, her biggest edge since spring. Former North Carolina senator John Edwards is at 13%. What's more, two-thirds of Clinton's supporters say they are "certain to support" her.

Fewer than half of the supporters of any other candidate in either party are firmly committed.

For Clinton, reaching the threshold of 50% support may have some value. Only once has a presidential candidate received as much as 50% support in a Gallup Poll and then gone on to lose his party's nomination. That was Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy in 1980.

"Some of the other campaigns have tried negative strategies that have backfired while she has continued to be out there saying where she wants to take the country," says Mark Penn, Clinton's chief strategist. Obama has sharpened his criticism of Clinton's judgment in voting to authorize the Iraq invasion in 2002, and Edwards has faulted her recent vote to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization.

Re: OBAMA FINDS MORE NEW DONORS (none / 0)

That's less than 1% of donors, if you take them out, Obama still beats Hillary.  Sorry man.

Re: OBAMA FINDS MORE NEW DONORS (none / 0)

Don't be surprised if Hillary's campaign double charged again on the credit cards. That campaign is notorious for double swiping donor credit card.

Re: OBAMA FINDS MORE NEW DONORS (none / 0)

At some point we all need to stop nit-picking about stuff like this. I'm an Obama man, but if I were Hillary I would definitely start counting purchases as donations. My rule is, if I would do it, then I won't criticize Hillary. My dislike for her is based on behavior that entirely predates this campaign...sorta expect campaigns to extract any strategic advantage they can.
